WESTLAND, Mich – Have you ever heard of a car that can predict when a spinout will occur? While many vehicles have technologies that assist when a spinout in occurring, Ford Motor Company is introducing a new feature that can detect a spinout before it even happens – The new Ford Focus Stability Control Technology actually predicts spinouts!
The new technology in the 2015 Ford Focus, called enhanced transitional stability technology, can detect a potential spin out by 100-200 milliseconds through real-time data gathered by sensors throughout the car. The technology can actually determine when conditions may lead to a spinout by reading information about the vehicle’s speed, steering wheel position, turn rate of the steering wheel and other input – all before the driver even notices! Then, when a risk is identified using the real-time sensor data, the system triggers spinout-mitigating braking inputs from the vehicle’s electronic stability control. Braking is applied separately to each wheel to help the driver keep control and continue on without a spinout.
During a winter that has left it’s bitter mark across the country, a car that anticipates when a risky situation may occur almost seems too good to be true. BUT, it’s possible and the new Ford Focus Stability Control Technology actually predicts spinouts! The best part is that this new stability control technology comes standard on all new Ford Focus models.
